Deleting your account
Last updated:
This page explains how to delete your Pairmest account, what gets deleted, and what happens to the person you are paired with. It covers the Pairmest mobile app on iOS and Android.
You do not need to give a reason, and we will not try to talk you out of it.
Delete your account in the app
This is the quickest way, and you can do it entirely on your own:
- Open Pairmest and go to Profile.
- Tap Account.
- Tap Delete account, and confirm.
Delete your account by email
If you cannot get into the app, or you would rather we did it, emailhello@pairmest.com from the email address your account is registered to and ask us to delete your account.
We ask you to write from your registered address because that is how we confirm the request is really yours. If you cannot use that address any more, write to us anyway and we will find another way to verify it with you.
What gets deleted
Deleting your account removes:
- Your account record, including its status and pairing status.
- Your email address and its verification status.
- Your date of birth.
- The moments you added — photos and captions.
- The calendar dates you added to the shared calendar.
- Your daily-prompt answers.
- Your push notification token, so we can no longer reach your device.
- The pairing link between your account and your partner’s.
Deletion is permanent. We cannot restore an account after it has been deleted, so if you want a copy of anything, ask us for an export (how to do that) before you delete.
What we keep, and for how long
We do not keep your account or your content after deletion for our own purposes. Two things do linger briefly for practical and legal reasons:
- Backups. Deleted records stay in our encrypted backups until those backups roll over on their normal schedule. They are not used for anything in the meantime, and they are overwritten in the ordinary course.
- A record of the deletion itself. We keep a minimal note that an account was deleted and when, so we can show the request was honoured and so the same account cannot be re-created to evade a suspension.
We may also keep something longer if the law requires it, or if it is needed to resolve a dispute or investigate abuse. If that happens, we keep only what is needed for that purpose and delete it once the purpose is met.
How long it takes
Deleting your account signs you out and ends the pairing. Removing the underlying records from our systems, and then from our backups, follows from there.
If you asked us by email, we will confirm to you once it is done.
What happens to your partner
If you were paired when you deleted your account, the pairing ends.Your partner’s own account is not deleted and is not affected — they keep their account, and they can pair with someone else.
What happens to the moments and calendar dates you added to the shared space — whether they disappear for your partner too, or stay with them — is set out in ourPrivacy Policy.
If you are deleting your account because of something the person you are paired with is doing, tell us at hello@pairmest.com. We would rather know, and we can act on it.
If something goes wrong
If the in-app option does not work, or you do not hear back from us, emailhello@pairmest.com and we will sort it out. A person reads that inbox.
